The Downlow: Jeter, Arenas & Kobe
Posted by prynce on September 17, 2008
Some of you might know me as the guy who makes frequent, lengthy comments on posts made by the fine staff here at Sportsbrotha.com. I thought, since the majority of the main contributors are currently busy, I might as well try to help out, and do my share of the heavy lifting. My specialty is basketball, but I am somewhat knowledgeable on all sports (that can be proven by my current 7/8 ranking in my fantasy football league). Suck on that Sports Brotha!
So I thought I’d just touch on a few topics around the sports world that have managed to slip through the cracks here at Sportsbrotha.com, since everyone is busy.

Lebron James is Jay-Z’s “little brother”?
Posted by boxtaboy on September 16, 2008
Lebron James has been a name all over the media for the past week or so. Cleveland fans are getting annoyed at his actions and his support for teams from other states. At the home season opening game for the Cleveland Browns against the Dallas Cowboys, Lebron was sporting the Cowboys colors while wearing his Yankee hat and was on the Cowboy’s sideline. He chatted with the owner and a few players while giving a hug to Terrell Owens.
Even last year Lebron was spotted at a Cleveland Indians playoff game against New York, and he was wearing the same Yankees hat. Well, probably not the same exact hat since he is Lebron James and should have many of the same hat, but you get my point. He even has a signature line of his shoe that is dedicated to the yankees with the blue and white pinstripe. Read the rest of this entry »

SB Confession
Posted by sportsbrotha on September 15, 2008
So this is my confession. I have a lot on my plate in terms of my personal life, and it’s a very hectic time for me, so I’m going to get right down to it. SportsBrotha’s posts until the first week of October will be absent. Besides the Wednesday Weekly Picks, I will not be able to post as much as I was before, so for that I apologize to our readers. JRabes’ schedule has picked up a bit, and so has BoxtaBoy’s so their posting may also be down. I would encourage you all to still send us stories, and perhaps we can have a few guest writers hold the fort down.
Peace and love

Wednesday’s weekly picks: Week 2
Posted by sportsbrotha on September 10, 2008
So there were some surprises last week, which made it interesting and of course the whole Brady situation, but in the NFL, that’s how life is. One play your team is slated for the playoffs and beyond, the next, your franchise quarterback is out for the year.
On to the picks…
Chicago Bears vs. Carolina Panthers
Both teams looked impressive in wins in week 1. Ya gotta love Jake Delhomme who’s turning back the clock, leading the team like last year was an aberration. No Steve Smith? I think the Panthers can do without him. Panthers in a very tight one.

Amazingly bad
Posted by sportsbrotha on September 10, 2008
I don’t really know how this is possible, but somehow the Bulgarian women’s ice hockey team lost 82-0.
…
82-0.
That’s not a typographical error. Against Slovakia in a qualifying match for the 2010 Winter Olympics, Bulgaria gave up a goal at an average of 1 per 44 seconds. That’s more scoring than some NBA teams. I mean, is that even imaginable? At what point do you say, well, I don’t think hockey is the right sport for us? Not only did Bulgaria lose 82-0, but the grand total of goals they have scored through 3 games is is 1. The grand total they gave up? 153.
Combined score for 3 games? 153-1. Solid.
Peace and love

Trouble in Foxboro, Party in Miami; Tales from Week 1

What a game. Favre’s regular season debut with the New York Jets. Wow, I was so pumped, and when this happened, I was through the roof
I called up JRabes and for a good while we were going nuts.

Huge Upset as Murray defeats Nadal!
Posted by boxtaboy on September 7, 2008
In a semi-finals match that took two days to complete because of a rain delay, Andy Murray defeated the Number 1 ranked player in the world Rafael Nadal 6-2, 7-6 (5), 4-6, 6-4. Andy Murray, a player from Scotland who ranked number 6 in the world, played some of the best tennis of his life to take an early two set lead on Nadal. However, to Murrays (and my) dismay Hurricane Hanah stormed into town and forced the match into a rain delay. The third set continued today and was taken by Nadal. Early in the fourth set it looked as if Murray was falling apart after hitting back-back-back-back errors. Murray rallied back and took the fourth set giving him entry into his first ever Grand Slam final. Now he must play the best of the best…Roger Federer.

Off-Season Recap – Southeast Division
Posted by boxtaboy on September 6, 2008
I am continuing my team by team recap of the NBA off-season. Today we have the Southeast division with teams that didn’t make drastic moves as seen in the Atlantic division.
Atlanta Hawks:
Added – Maurice Evans (Magic), Randolph Morris (Knicks), Flip Murray
Lost – Josh Childress (Greece)
Re-Signed – Josh Smith
Analysis – 2 Stars. There is not much to talk about with the Hawks. GM Billy Knight is finally gone. They lost Josh Childress to a team in Greece, in a move that opened up international play as an option for other NBA players to soon follow. The only good thing that happened in the off-season for the Hawks was matching the contract fantasy stud Josh Smith signed with Memphis allowing them to keep him. I’m excited to see how Al Horford, my pick last season for rookie of the year, developed his game. He’ll be a double double machine, and should show improvements in scoring.

Jersey Thursday reactions: 9/4
Posted by sportsbrotha on September 6, 2008
Ok, so it didn’t work out as planned. Not the whole, everyone wearing a jersey, because I did catch a few solid jerseys, but my tools were not up to standard. You see, my camera, unfortunately decided to act up. So I figured, maybe I just need new batteries. Popped in some new batteries, but no deal. So without the camera, I tried first taking a picture of me in my Favre jersey, to see how it would come out, and it was beyond terrible. My phone isn’t the greatest for taking pictures to say the least.
