They say that Lightning never strikes the same place twice. Tell that to Usain “Lightning” Bolt. Insane Usain did something no other Olympian has ever done.
He broke the World Record in the 100 M sprint and the 200 M at the same Olympics. This time, there was no showboating and it was all about the record. He opened up a huge lead, and really went for it all.
The guy seems like he’s someone Track & Field can really bring to the forefront. He’s comical, a little goofy, and a showman. He’s someone, I would be willing to watch a track meet for. Now granted, the way Track & Field meets work is that they are very disjointed with numerous events happening at once, which isn’t very appealing for viewers. If something can be done to organize the meet better, and finish it in less time, I think Track & Field has a shot at being relevant between the Olympics.
What bothers me is what the President of the IOC, Jacques Rogge said about Bolt. He said, “That’s not the way we perceive being a champion. I have no problem with him doing a show” He also said, “I understand the joy. He might have interpreted that in another way, but the way it was perceived was ‘catch me if you can.’ You don’t do that. But he’ll learn. He’s still a young man.”
Really. Wow Mr. Rogge you are something.
So Jacques Rogge decides to talk about Usain Bolt, but he refuses to look into the 68 pound 16 year olds on the Chinese gymnastics team. And Rogge does not “understand the joy” that Bolt felt. How many times has Jacques Rogge run an Olympic event that’s not his strongest, and still beat his top competitor while taking gold and breaking the world record? How many times has Rogge done that? But apparently, he “understands the joy.”
So he showboated a little bit. Big Deal. The guy is single-handedly making Track & Field interesting after everyone was turned off by every known champion testing positive for some banned substance. And you’re going to rip him? What he’s doing for track is what Michael Phelps did for swimming. He is revitilizing the sport, bringing it back from the dead, and the Olympics President is ripping him?
Dan Wetzel of Yahoo! Sports calls it “gutless.” Couldn’t have said it better myself. Shame on you Jacques Rogge.
Peace and love

bolt has a long way to go before he has the impact of phelps, who btw, in a controversial move, has decided to appear on the box of frosted flakes, instead of the traditional wheaties. what message does that send to a nation where childhood obesity is the highest in the world?

Jacques Rogge is just trying to press a black man down…He has over seen the successes that of Bolts’ triumph will bring to him (Bolt) and Jamaica / the Caribbean. I wonder how would Mr. Jacques Rogge feel if he was nearing a great victory and could foresee it…Wouldn’t he celebrate prematurely? Anyone whould. Even politician celebrate prematurely on victory after preliminaries… Mr. Jacques Rogge wanted to just vent out disguss over stresses brought about by China’s competitor’s age issue but instead picked on the young uprising Caribbean success…He is scared of China. There is the saying….”Monkey knows what tree to climb on”… He is afraid they shut him quit for life so he didn’t express disguss on the much more important issue like the age issue. That was very poor channeling remarks on Bolt’s victory. He is our hero and no one will take it away; not Mr. Jacques Rogge nor the IOC. China will deal with Mr. Jacques Rogge. No need to be hatign man….come on…the world is very much disappionted with you Mr. Jacques Rogge and Mr. Ato Bolton outta Trinidad and Tobago. For Ato Bolton to try to bring down a native Caribbean fellow like that, is like salvery mentallity by a native…very disgracing man…
